Hahniids (Hahniidae)

Calymmaria is one of the most commonly seen spiders in california, and is tentatively placed in the Hahniidae. It can be found in streambeds, roadcuts, exposed root systems, and occasionally under stones. It spins a sheet-web the center of which is pulled down into a broad, cone-like shape. The roughly 40 species of Calymmaria vary in size from 2 mm to 10 mm. Other Californian hahniids are much less frequently seen.
